Der letzte Meter zählt: Warum Nachhaltigkeit bei uns nicht beim Shirt endet

The final yard counts: Why sustainability doesn't end with our shirts

We talk a lot about organic cotton, GOTS certification, and print-on-demand to avoid overproduction. But one part of the story often gets overlooked: what actually happens after your shirt is printed – on its way from the print shop to your home?

To be honest, we didn't look at that very closely for a long time. Packing an organic cotton shirt in thick plastic wrap with unnecessary filler material would have been quite contradictory. That is why we are now treating packaging with the same focus as the shirt itself: as honest and as minimalist as possible.

What this means in concrete terms

Our print-on-demand partners print as locally as possible – closer to you, rather than sending a shirt halfway around the world before it even reaches you. This not only saves CO₂ during shipping, but it is also the reason why we can honestly say about "Around the World": wanderlust in the design, with no detours in shipping.

For the packaging itself, we rely on recyclable or recycled materials instead of additional plastic that ends up in the trash anyway. No tissue paper, no decorative stickers, no brochures that disappear unread into the paper recycling bin. It's less of an "unboxing experience" and more: the shirt arrives just as it should – without any excess baggage.

Is it perfect? No. We work with print-on-demand partners, which means we don't have 100 percent control over every single shipping chain everywhere. But we actively ask about packaging and shipping methods for each partner – and that influences who we choose to work with in the first place.

The point behind this: for us, sustainability is not a store badge that looks good, but a chain of many small decisions – from the design and the fabric to the shipping bag. None of them alone will save the world. But together, they make a difference that can not only be claimed but also demonstrated.

The next time you open a GeorgWerner package, feel free to take a close look. We have nothing to hide – and if you notice anything we can do better, please let us know. That is exactly how the next decisions are made.
