No spring, no autumn: Why we are opting out of the fashion calendar

The fashion industry runs on a six-month cycle: Spring/Summer, Autumn/Winter, with a few mid-season drops in between and a sale to clear out what’s left. Every season demands new merchandise, and every piece of new merchandise requires the old to disappear somehow—in a clearance sale, in a warehouse, or, worse, in the trash. At GeorgWerner, we have decided not to play this game.
Our three lines—Retro Shirts, Around the World, and Water Nomads—are not collections with an expiration date. There is no deadline by which they become "out of fashion" and must make room for something new. A Water Nomads shirt you order today will be just as current in two years as it was on day one, because it was never built on a fleeting trend, but on an attitude: calm, minimalist, intended for the moment after sports, not just for the moment on Instagram.
Why we don't run by the fashion clock
The reason is simple and has to do with our production model. Because we use print-on-demand, we only print each shirt once it has been ordered. There is no seasonal stock that we need to clear out before the next quarter, no buyer ordering summer goods in January and desperately discounting them in June because the forecast didn't pan out. Without this inventory problem, the pressure to invent artificial expiration dates for designs also vanishes.
That doesn't mean we don't have anything new. The owner is constantly developing new motifs, often using AI tools as a resource, but always starting with an original creative idea—each motif is unique, made honestly instead of copied. But new designs supplement the existing lines; they don't replace them. A new Around-the-World motif doesn't automatically make an older one unfashionable. It simply stands alongside it.
This is a conscious departure from a system in which novelty itself is the selling point. We want you to buy a shirt because you like it and want to wear it for a long time—not because it’s "the new thing" this season and will look strange again next year. For us, sustainability doesn't start with organic materials. It starts with the pace at which we introduce new goods into the world in the first place.
So, when you order a shirt from us, you can be sure: it doesn't have a countdown. It’s simply a good shirt, for as long as you want to wear it.
