Pflege statt Wegwerfen: So bleibt dein GeorgWerner Shirt lange fit

Care instead of discarding: How to keep your GeorgWerner shirt in top shape for a long time

For us, a good sports shirt is not a disposable item. If we rely on organic materials, fair production, and print-on-demand instead of stock goods, that's only half the battle – the other half is up to you. How you wash, dry, and wear your shirt ultimately determines whether it lasts two seasons or two years. And honestly: The most sustainable clothing is always the one you wear the longest – not the one you can buy again most cheaply.

Wash cold, wash less often

The most common mistake with sportswear: washing too hot, too often, too aggressively. Organic cotton and functional fibers lose their shape and color significantly faster at 60 degrees than at 30 degrees. Our tip from daily experience: turn the shirt inside out, wash cold, skip fabric softener. Fabric softener actually coats the fibers that are supposed to provide breathability – thereby destroying what you chose when you bought it. And not every training session immediately demands the washing machine. Airing it out briefly is often perfectly sufficient.

Dry without heat, print without risk

Our designs are created using the print-on-demand method – printed directly on the individual shirt, no inventory, no overproduction, each piece unique. For the print to last as long as the fabric itself, the shirt should not go in the dryer. Instead, hang it to air dry, preferably inside out so the design is not exposed to direct sunlight. This way, colors remain vibrant, and cracks in the print become the exception rather than the rule.

Ultimately, this is the point we want to make: sustainability doesn't end at the checkout. A shirt made from organic material, fairly produced, and without overproduction, but that ends up stretched out in the laundry basket after five washes, hasn't really helped anyone. For us, honest design also means showing you how to get the most out of your item – instead of just selling you the next one in two years.

In the end, it's simple: wash cold, air dry, design facing inward. Small habits, big impact – for your shirt and for what we at GeorgWerner truly want to achieve: sportswear that lasts.
